Jan. update

This past week has been full of unexpected and unplanned events.  We have been traveling down the coast to check out other possible RV parks.  While doing so, we found a really nice one – Southern Oaks RV Park and Resort in Aransas Pass, TX.    www.sorvresort.com

Not only does this park have rental spots, but it also has lots for sale!  After touring and reserving a rental spot for the months of  February and March, we are considering the purchase of one of the lots for a home-away-from-home.  Now, if we no longer plan to pull a travel trailer, perhaps we should get a model that has more permanence to it.  Enter the Puma by Palomino.   http://www.palominorv.com/puma/default.aspx?RVType=TT  Park Model.

Larry had been thinking about selling our trailer for awhile.  Now, it will be traded in on a park model that will reside in Aransas Pass, for as long as we want to keep doing our southern journey!

Fast trip back to Paola for title and original furniture for the exchange.  Arrived Monday night with the temperature around 45.  Woke up Tuesday to 6 degrees.  Loaded the truck and ran errands, then left Paola and a temperature of 15 on Wednesday morning.  Larry has a relative in Fairfield, TX, so we spent the night with her and her husband.  They took us out to dinner at a little place called Bubba’s Food and Grill.  If you are in the area, you really must try it!  It is a few miles outside of Fairfield, but well worth the trip.  Fresh catfish, freshly made onion rings–lots of fried food, but really good!  You are soon treated like family by the owner and his wife.

Leaving Fairfield on Thursday with a strong northerly wind helping us on our trek south, we got back to Port Lavaca Thursday evening.  The wind was still quite strong and the light rain became heavier through the night.  Larry retracted the 2 slides we have on the trailer to reduce the buffeting of the 50 mph winds all night.  It helped!  We did not rock nearly as much with the weight of the trailer more concentrated over the axles, rather than hanging out over the open air.

Friday morning–a freak freezing rainstorm has hit eastern Texas.  Many school in this area are closed or have late starts.  Port Lavaca is not one of them, much to the dismay of school kids, I’m sure.

I am fascinated by the highways in Texas cities.  I’m not used to seeing the layers upon layers of “sky-ways”, and now I know why.  Kansas does not have any like these–too much freezing.  Houston is at a standstill and will be until the temperatures climb enough to thoroughly melt all roadways.  “Bridges freeze before roads”.  Strange winter for the south!

Very nice motor home! We are having very strange weather for southern Calif. as well. Our temps have been in the 70’s and 80’s. Trees are blooming, winds are blowing, very dry here in the desert and I think about my family in the Wash DC area and feel so bad for their weather. I offered cousin Ed a place to stay if he wants to get out of the deep freeze there. No reply! Enjoy. Hopefully the weather will improve for your stay.

    • It seems too early for you to have those temps in Southern California, but I am not familiar with that region.  The dryness is a concern, I know.  Hopefully, relief will come to you and to your family in D.C.!   Jeanette
